Jazz trained and electronically inspired,

Graduating Cornish College of the Arts in 2009, Bews has been exploring the expression of music and rhythms through jazz and electronic music while accompanying a variety of bands and projects around Seattle and New York City. His time in New York was greatly influenced by drummer Mark Guiliana. Having the privilege of studying with Guiliana and being exposed to his creativity and performances regularly has shaped Bews into a sought out musician in the Seattle music scene.

Over the years Bews’ extensive studies in improvised electronic music has granted opportunities such as a weekly residency called “Electro Lounge” at Seattle’s Seamonster Lounge. Using Ableton and live musicians to sample their sounds on stage to create beats with just two players for a powerfully full sound. Power duo aside, his work shines when he gets a hold of unique samples to perform solo. Armed with a Midi-fighter-64, drums, and Ableton, Bews’ solo work has gain respect and admiration among DJ’s, songwriters, musicians, dancers, and music lovers from all walks of life. With this unique style, it can hardly be described in words. But no matter, his performances at Lightning in a Bottle ‘18 says it all.

“I’ve never heard such a blend of acoustic drums and electronic music work so well together”

“It’s so simple yet the sound is so full and powerful.”

“This is the future, after seeing Bews’ performance, I think I’m done DJing and need to rethink what is possible.”

“I stumbled upon you on my way to the restroom and didn’t want to leave in case I missed something, so I’ve been holding it this whole time.”

“I’m more of a country western style music lover, but I loved this. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

As if this wasn’t enough for him, Bews’ versatility led him to work with video game app developers in making sound effects and soundtracks, creating beats and moods with dancers (more notably with Daniel Costa Dance and Hayley Shannon’s Dance Healing.)

Devin Bews lives and works in Seattle, WA. He's available for drum set and Ableton performances, workshops, music and sound productions, and private studies.
